The MASH Unit is a no-kill shelter in downtown Phoenix that was created by Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The shelter is in the First Avenue Jail located on First Avenue and Monroe. The animals are taken by the Animal Crimes Investigations Unit from families that abused or neglected the animals. While the animals enjoy their stay, low-risk inmates get to help rehabilitate the dogs so that the animals can be adopted.
